Fans looking forward to Crash Team Racing are in for a retro treat. Classic content is coming to all versions, with even more heading to PS4.
Crashing back through time
Crash Team Racing has already been on my radar for a while. And if you’re a big Crash fan then it’s probably been there for you as well. If you’ve been wondering which platform to get your copy for though, today’s news might help you along.
But before we get to that, Activision has announced that all versions of the game will be getting a little extra 90s love.
“Since the very beginning, we’ve said we’re giving fans a whole lot more in Crash™ Team Racing Nitro-Fueled,” said Thomas Wilson, co-studio head at Beenox. “As fans, we know the important role that Crash Nitro Kart plays in the Crash franchise among the community, so we’re thrilled to be remastering the tracks, karts and even the battle modes to give players an awesome Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled experience.”
Activision press release
Developer Beenox has remastered all 13 of Crash Nitro Kart’s courses. Even better, all of them will be “adapted” to match the experience that Crash Team Racing offers.
But wait… there’s more.
In addition to the above, players will also get “remastered karts, battle arenas and battle modes” from that original PSOne game. Now that’s a hefty load of retro-fueled goodness.
But that’s still not all
The original home for Crash Bandicoot, the PlayStation will be getting a special lot of retro-themed content for CTR. Yes, even more than the above, which’ll be made available for every edition of the game.
The PS4 exclusive goodies shake out to be:
- Retro character skins for Crash, Coco, and Cortex
- Retro karts for all of the above characters as well
- A “soon-to-be revealed” retro track
That’s quite a bit of incentive, no matter which console you choose to get the game for. But what if you haven’t quite made up your mind on the game? Well, you’re in luck… if you’re heading to PAX East, that is. There you’ll actually be able to try it out first hand.
Debuting this week (March 28th through 31st), Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled will be playable at booth #16031 on the show floor. You’ll be able to race on two Crast Team Racing tracks, Papu’s Pyramid and Sewer Speedway. If that’s not enough, you can also play two remastered Crash Nitro Kart tracks with Clockwork Wumpa and Electron Avenue.
And since it’s PAX, you’ll also be able to grab some swag at the booth (while it lasts) and get in on a photo op.
