Resident Evil Veronica headlines Capcom’s Summer Game Fest

Publisher Capcom had one mighty Summer Game Fest last Friday, complete with the reveal of Resident Evil Veronica.

Code? That’d be Veronica

If you missed Summer Game Fest last Friday, you missed a ton of huge reveals. Not the least of those, were owned by Capcom. The legendary publisher unveiled a compact collection of big news, though the spotlight was pretty easily grabbed by its marquee horror property. Yes, that’d be Resident Evil, and the game in question would be a remake of Code: Veronica.

Not something we’d call a well-kept secret, the title has been rumored for months (years?). But even though we finally got the big reveal, we still don’t know much about it. Claire Redfield is there of course, and right now looks like the sole playable character. Her reveal was just part of the show though, as fans were also treated to a story opening that looks night and day different from the classic game.

Instead of a firefight in a building, Resident Evil Veronica starts on the snowy streets of Paris. That much was shown off at the event, along with some hints at the gameplay and additional locales. There are even a few visuals that should strike a familiar chord with fans.

On top of that, Capcom adds that the title will be updated with “modernized gameplay”. And the company threw in that it’ll also have “a chilling level of realism”. Might that mean in the realm of actual play? We’re not sure. Frankly, Capcom could just be referring to the visuals, which seems pretty great from this teaser.

Either way, we’re excited.

Resident Evil Veronica will draw players into a desperate escape filled with horror and madness through the isolated, zombie-filled Rockfort Island. Developed on Capcom’s proprietary RE ENGINE, the game will introduce modernized gameplay with a chilling level of realism designed to push survival horror to new heights.

We’ll have much more to share in the near future, so stay tuned!

Capcom press release

Look for Resident Evil Veronica to hit the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC via Steam some time in 2027.

Enter the wilds in Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance

Another huge series/franchise from Capcom, Monster Hunter Wilds is heading back to consoles and the PC. Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance will be an expansion for the base game, which launched at the top of last year. The upcoming DLC got a full reveal at Summer Game Fest, and Capcom says that fans should expect for it to be pretty loaded.

From the looks of the trailer, we’d agree. Both new and returning monsters will be on hand for Ascendance, which will also include “refined gameplay mechanics”. There’s more though, as Ascendance will also bring in a wild looking “high-altitude locale” and more.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance advances the story of the Forbidden Lands as the Expedition Team’s adventure soars to a new locale set amongst the clouds. In the expansion, hunters will explore islands in the sky and wield explosive new abilities that evolve the gameplay and take the hunting action to new heights. The challenge will also rise to a whole new level with the return of Elder Dragons and Master Rank content.

Capcom press release

Look for Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance to release some time in 2027, for addition to the base Monster Hunter Wilds game. Look for it on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam).

Tifa joins the Street Fighter universe?!

Yes, as crazy as it might seem, a Final Fantasy legend is coming to Street Fighter 6. And no, we’re not talking about Cloud for once. Instead, Square Enix and Capcom will be bringing Final Fantasy VII’s Tifa to the latest edition of the fighting game.

The fan-favorite character will officially be a part of the game’s Year 4 of content, which actually got a full reveal. Well, kind of. There are no in-game graphics shown in the teaser that Capcom released, though there’s some slick animation to check out anyway.

In total, the complete upcoming series of downloadable content fighters will include the above heroine, plus two new fighters in Yasmine and Arjun, and a second “protagonist of World Tour”, with Bosch. Look for the Year 4 roster to start arriving this summer with Yasmine, and roll right through the Spring of ’27.

  • Yasmine (Summer 2026), a highschooler hailing from the Philippines joins the fight to search for her long-lost brother. Despite her shy and gentle demeanor, Yasmine beams with confidence whenever she uses her crescent-shaped karambit knife to dance around her opponents at high speed just like her Lolo taught her.
  • Arjun (Autumn 2026) uses extraordinary lung capacity combined with yogic breathing to unleash explosive power with his unique Bare-knuckle Yoga techniques. While working as a police officer in India Arjun was accused of killing a colleague and now lives on the run while he searches for the true culprit.
  • Tifa (Early 2027) is a highly skilled practitioner of Zangan-ryu Martial Arts and a member of the “Avalanche” resistance group. During her journey with her companions, she is unexpectedly transported to another world where she encounters and bonds with new fighters. Tifa excels in close-range combat, combining martial arts techniques with unique powers called Abilities.
  • Bosch (Spring 2027) departed his home nation of Nayshall to pursue the true meaning of strength and eventually wins the sacred martial arts tournament. His travels brought him to Metro City where he trained under Luke to incorporate modern combat methods into the ancient techniques of Nayshall’s warrior faith.
