It’s McFarlane Toys x Marvel Rivals for line of variant covers

McFarlane Toys and Marvel, working toghether? That’s right, and it’s for a new line of Marvel Rivals variant covers.

McFarlane meets Marvel, again

Maybe a name that’s going to be synonymous with Marvel Comics for all of eternity at this point, Todd McFarlane was a force with the publisher at one time. The artist (and writer) was a mainstay on the Spider-Man book, penciling some of the best-loved Spidey images of all time.

It was only a short time after he arrived though, that he forged Image Comics, with a cadre of additional talent. And for some time, Image was a major rival to Marvel, if not in size, then in quality. Since those years, McFarlane’s own line of Spawn comics have grown considerably, and his toy empire has exploded.

McFarlane Toys has produced legions of Spawn action figures and collectibles, but also many other lines. Those have most recently included series’ of toys for Avatar, DC Comics, a burgeoning Image line, and more. So what’s this about Marvel then? Well, we’re getting to that.

Along with the hosts of action figures that McFarlane Toys is involved with, there’s also a statue line. And yes, there are those that are Marvel-flavored in that lot. They’re pretty slick too, and typically crafted to look like classic comic covers, in three dimensions. While comics might be the focal point of those works, they’re not the only corner of Marvel’s universe to be featured.

That’s because McFarlane has recently been working on Marvel Rivals pieces. Based on the video game of the same name, these non-posable products will showcase the wild re-designs of familiar characters that the hero-shooter specializes in. And now, they’re coming to the printed page.

Marvel Rivals gets covered

Beginning next month, McFarlane Toys will be rolling into Marvel Comics with a total of five Marvel Rivals variant covers. Quiet frankly, it’s wild to see the company’s Spawn-infused logo on a Marvel book. That’s something that we never thought would happen, but here we go.

Starring will be some huge names too, including the likes of Doctor Strange, Thor, Captain America, Magneto, and Jeff The Land Shark. Yes, Jeff’s there too. Said covers will be showcased on matching titles, and fans can look for them to arrive throughout the month of July, 2026. Scroll down to check out the offiical images and release dates.
