Fans of Disney’s toys-to-life series won’t be getting a new installment here in 2016, but there will be a major new ‘playset’ with Marvel Battlegrounds.
Firstly, no, there’s no Disney Infinity 4.0 heading to retail this year. The first series in the now burgeoning toys-to-life genre to choose to skip out on a yearly release, Infinity will nonetheless have a major launch to celebrate, especially if you’re a Marvel fan… and it isn’t all that far off. Actually, you’ve probably seen it listed online at your favored retailer.
Marvel Battlegrounds was a bit of a mystery in terms of content, but no more. According to GamesRadar, the playset will run off of Disney Infinity 3.0 (which was released last Fall) and incorporate a storyline spun out of the upcoming Captain America: Civil War motion picture. It’ll also feature a pack-in figure of Cap, patterned after his appearance in the film, and support every Marvel figure out there at present, and some that are on the way.
Also according to GR, that will be Black Panther, Ant-Man (Scott Lang), Vision, and the black-costumed Spider-Man that was formerly only available in the PS Vita starter set of Disney Infinity 2.0. Not a bad lineup at all, and the news doesn’t stop there.
Apparently, in addition to the 12 levels of play included in the ‘set, you’ll also get access to a “Power Stone”-like, four-player fighting game. This is a pretty terrific inclusion, and basically ups the replayability of the set through the roof.
Mark this one off on your calendars Marvelites, Marvel Battlegrounds comes to Disney Infinity 3.0 in just a few weeks, on March 15th.
