There’s a new fighter in town, known as the Bakunawa Killer. Meet him in the latest Virtua Fighter Crossroads trailer.
Killer at the Crossroads
Looking like a milestone reinvention of one of the longest-running fighting series, is Virtua Fighter Crossroads. SEGA revealed the upcoming next installment of VF a while ago, though it finally got a deeper look earlier this month, and it’s looking like a game that’s primed to shake up the status quo.
That’s because, while there is a versus mode, Virtua Fighter Crossroads‘ main attraction seems to be an action/adventure. In it, a new character named Cielo finds himself in a shady far-eastern town, one where fighting tourneys are ubiquitous. As it happens, that’s also where a new character comes in, with the Bakunawa Killer.
The just-debuted and highly-skilled character is stalking the island, taking out fighters. We’re not just talking about tournament participants either, as the Bakunawa Killer doesn’t apparently care much for status. Said rogue is in the spotlight, but not alone in this latest look at Virtua Fighter Crossroads. Classic fighter Pai is there as well and, along with Cielo, is hunting him down.
What happens when the two find themselves face-to-face? Hit ‘play’ on the video below to find out.
A series of attacks on martial artists has shaken the very streets of Vilasapara, the turbulent island city where the game’s story is set. The latest trailer depicts the mysterious man behind the attacks, the Bakunawa Killer, as well as Pai and Cielo, who are on the trail of his true identity.
VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS is an all-new installment in the iconic fighting game series that delivers a bold action-adventure experience that blends a cinematic narrative with the pure, realistic combat the franchise is known for.
SEGA press release
We realize this might be kind a weird take, but those are some stunningly good sound effects in that trailer. That’s not typically something that we would go crazy over, but we’re loving the level of detail. Of course, that goes for the visuals too.
Every time we see Virtua Fighter Crossroads in action, we’re taking aback by just how great its weathered world looks. While we’re on the subject of visuals too, it’s also cool to see something a little more grounded in a fighter. That’s one of SEGA’s main talking points in reference to the title, but we’re really digging it all the same.
That said, we’ve still got a ways to go before Virtua Fighter Crossroads arrives for consoles and the PC. Fans can look for that to happen some time in 2027, but in the meantime, stay tuned. We’re sure there’s much more to come.
