Naughty Dog’s upcoming PS3 end of the world action game, The Last of Us will be receiving the mini-series and art book treatment from Dark Horse Comics in 2013.
There isn’t too much in the way of info about the art book right now, though if you’ve seen any of the books that Dark Horse has produced (or will be producing), then you probably have some idea of what’s on the way.
What we do know is that The Art of The Last of Us will become available right along side the game when it launches for the PS3 next year. The deluxe hardcover tome will feature the artwork and designs of the world that Naughty Dog has created, as well as the infected humans and characters that populate it.
As for the comic series, that’s a little more transparent right now. The book, subtitled American Dreams, will have a four issue run and will explore the life of one-half of the upcoming game’s starring duo, Ellie.
Ellie, the heroine of The Last of Us, has grown up in a postpandemic world, shuttled between military orphanages in one of the last remaining quarantine zones and resigned to the fact that when she’s old enough, she’ll be channeled into the army or left to fend for herself—until she meets an older girl determined to find a third way out. American Dreams explores Ellie’s backstory and her first steps on the road that led her to her companion Joel.
Written by Neil Druckmann and Faith Erin Hicks, with art by Hicks herself, you can look for The Last of Us: American Dreams to infect comic shops sometime next year.
