It has begun! Well, it’s almost begun that is, as the recent Mortal Kombat II feature film is heading to streaming.
Mortal Kombat returns
Directed by Simon McQuoid and written by Jeremy Slater, Mortal Kombat II brought the cast of the 2021 original back together for another romp through Outworld. The flick also brought in a previously (and mysteriously) missing hero, with actor Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage.
Fans seemed to dig the movie, as it pulled in greater numbers than the aforementioned reboot.
MORTAL KOMBAT II features the fan favorite champions, as well as Johnny Cage, pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds barred battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.
HBO Max press release
If you’ve been dying to see the above action epic one more time, you’re in luck. The flick is heading home, with a release for streaming. That’ll start with the HBO Max platform, before it migrates to HBO itself. Fans won’t have to wait long for either of those opportunities either, as the Max release is scheduled for July 24th, and MK2 hits HBO the very next day.
In a cool twist, there’ll also be a version of the film for the hearing impaired that includes American Sign Language (ASL). Airing on HBO Max, that edition will be directed by Rosa Lee Timm. No stranger to the format, Timm has previously worked on Sinners with BASL and Minecraft with ASL. ASL Dubber Justin Perez will bring the on-screen action to fans, which will include “Visual Vernacular”.
If you’re not familiar with that, it sounds pretty neat. According to HBO Max, Visual Vernacular is “a unique sign language form that combines elements of ASL, mime, facial expressions and body movements to convey highly visual stories.”
