Gamescom ’24: Heed the call of war in the new Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 trailer

The first day of Gamescom has been a barn-burner, with tons of new game footage, and that includes a fresh peek at Space Marine 2.

The Tyranids won’t know what hit ’em

We are not all that far away from the incredible looking Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. Focus Entertainment and developer Saber Interactive’s followup to the original from 2011, the action title presents a huge scale battle between the Imperium’s finest and the loathsome Tyranids, as they wage war across a human-controlled planet.

Players are once again sat into the bulky armor of Titus, an Ultramarine who’s been knocked down in rank to lieutenant from captain when the game begins. Titus is accompanied by his squad (for some optional campaign co-op), and from the looks of things, many more Ultramarines as well. Those troopers are more than just window dressing too, and will figure into the game’s separate PvE co-op mode.

That’s not all though, as the title will also feature a multiplayer mode that centers on battles between the Ultramarines and the dark and twisted forces of Chaos. Add all of it up and you have a game that could be a sleeper of a hit for 2024.

Space Marine 2 invites players to embody the titular supersoldiers in all their brutality and glory across single-player, co-op, and competitive multiplayer modes. Take on horrors from beyond the stars as the full weight of Warhammer 40,000’s galactic warfare descends on a single star system. Combat is a grand spectacle combining fluid movement and lightning reflexes with humongous weaponry and overwhelming power.

Take on foul swarms of alien creatures, otherworldly daemons, and corrupted traitors to the Imperium across a co-op-enabled campaign as Titus and his battle-brothers Chairon and Gadriel – or in specific PvE missions and PvP battles where you can customize and upgrade six unique classes of Space Marines.

Focus Entertainment press release

No, there isn’t a ton of new footage included in that all-too brief look at the game in action, but we’ll take whatever we can get at this point. Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 is looking all kinds of good, and has us amped to finally play it.

If you’re thinking of buying into the game, then you’ll want to know that you’ll have a few different editions to pick from. Standard and Gold Editions are available for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, but there’s also the Ultra Edition.

A digital exclusive, the Ultra Edition will include the exclusive “Ultramarines Champion Pack” of DLC. For those who want in as early as possible too, you’ll want to grab either a copy of that or the aforementioned Gold edition, as both will give a four day head start on the action.
