Sorry Sony fans, even though there’s a fresh console arriving this year, the PlayStation company won’t be attending E3 this June.
Second year running
I think it’s probably safe to say that there weren’t too many fans that were upset by Sony skipping out on E3 in 2019. After all, most games are multiplatform these days, so they were all still there, and Sony managed to get their word out to their fans anyway.
This year though, is a little different. This year, there’s a new PlayStation coming in the form of the PS5, and you’d think that Sony would want to put on a big show. But you’d be wrong.
Sony has officially announced that they’ll be passing on E3 2020, and won’t have a presence in the convention hall when June rolls around.
In a statement to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony basically said they thought about attending, but won’t be after all:
“After thorough evaluation SIE has decided not to participate in E3 2020,” said a Sony Interactive Entertainment spokesperson. “We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year.”
