Gamescom 2014: In Alien: Isolation, improvisation is king

Underpowered and underprepared are two things that you don’t want to be when being stalked by a vicious alien killer, but that’s exactly where you’ll find yourself in Alien: Isolation.

If there’s a better pure horror, scare you out of your wits game coming up, I don’t know what it is. Sure there are quite a few games coming along in the next few months that look like quality horror experiences, but what developer Creative Assembly is doing with Alien: Isolation looks to be in a class by itself.

More focused on recreating that palpable sense of tension and fright that the original xenomorphic flick had than the all-out action of Aliens, Alien: Isolation has so far hit all the high notes and is getting some tremendous word of mouth as it makes the rounds at the various trade events. This trailer, just released by Sega at Gamescom in Cologne, holds true to that and only makes me want to dig in and play it even more. Maybe with the lights on though.

Alien: Isolation launches on the Xbox One, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC on October 7th.
