Take a technical trip through Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

Assassin’s Creed IV’s water is a sight to behold, as are its weather effects and a dozen other graphical touches. But do you have any idea what goes into creating all that? Well that’s what this handy new trailer hosted by Associate Producer Sylvain Trottier is for.

I love these behind the scenes looks at games. It’s always interesting and you pretty much always pick up something new that you didn’t know before, no matter how well versed a ‘layman’ you might be. Particularly interesting (to me anyway) was the water itself and the sheer number of layers that go into creating the seabed and ocean above it. Cool stuff.

Notable here too is that the trailer is labeled with a ‘next-gen’ tag. ACIV looked absolutely gorgeous in this latest look, so it’s not too hard to believe that this is next generation Creed that we’re watching. That does beg the question of what the game will look like running on current-gen hardware like the PS3 and Xbox 360… although my guess is it’ll still be a good looking game.

Fortunately we won’t have to wait too long now to see what all the different editions of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag look (and play) like as the game is scheduled to hit the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PC on October 29th in the US and on November 1st in Europe. Then right after that, in November, the Xbox One and PS4 versions will have their day.
