DOOM: The Dark Ages expands with Revelations next month

The next chapter of the DOOM Slayer’s story is officially inbound, with DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations. The DLC is hits in July.

Revelations abound

Revealed at Microsoft’s XBOX Showcase on Sunday, DOOM: The Dark Ages‘ first big expansion is coming up fast. Dubbed Revelations, the pack looks set to deliver a shake-up for the demon-slaying hero. Much like The Ancient Gods did for DOOM Eternal, Revelations looks like it might ramp up the story considerably.

And with that in mind, it also looks like the downloadable content’s name definitely carries some weight. By that, we mean that the Slayer’s past looks like it’s going to get a much deeper look. And it just might be the case that some of the question marks as to the flow of the series’ narrative will get addressed. Then there are the classic DOOM moments too.

But we don’t want to spoil those, if you haven’t seen the trailer yet. So, if that’s the case, check it out below before you read any further.

So did you catch that? The trailer pretty clearly shows what looks like a classic DOOM level, reforged for this expansion. Plus there’s that ‘flashback’ (?) section, which we’re thinking shows off the version of Earth that the Slayer hails from.

And of course, Revelations also sees the Slayer lose most of his medieval-style armor. That definitely has us thinking that the Praetor suit is incoming. Though, whether that might lead into another DLC, or a full DOOM: The Dark Ages sequel is anyone’s guess. We’re betting on the latter, but again we’re just supposing.

In any event, players won’t have to wait long to experience any and all of the above. As mentioned, DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations is coming up fast, and looks to launch for all versions of the base game on July 7th, 2026.

The pack is included with the game’s Digital Upgrade, Premium Edition, or Collector’s Bundle. So if you have one of those already, you’ll be good to go. If you don’t, and you’ll be buying a’la carte, DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations will be priced in at $19.99 USD.

Changing the game

While DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations looks to essentially be more of the DOOM: The Dark Ages formula, it’s not exactly the same play experience either. That’ll be mainly thanks to a new weapon, called the “all-new deadly Chain Spear”.

Using a wicked looking spear, players can unleash a whole new combat system, according to publisher Bethesda. Yeah, the Slayer is still a powerhouse, but now he’ll be fast too. That’s not all either, as he’ll have some new monsters to face off against, plus “deeper puzzles”.

Revelations introduces a whole new dimension of combat: The all-new deadly Chain Spear offers returning Slayers a uniquely satisfying combat system – one that rewards mastery with enhanced power and mobility. Featuring new levels with deeper puzzles, new demons, and new mysteries, the DLC delivers a breadth of new content for players to experience.

All this and an update too

While it’s sounding sharp, Revelations itself is just half the story. Also on tap, and arriving right along with the paid DLC pack, will be Ripatorium 3.0. A free update for the core title, Ripatorium 3.0 will serve up a bunch of changes, even more so for those who own the base game’s Premium Edition or Collectors Bundle.

Along with Revelations comes the Ripatorium 3.0 update, free for all existing players. This update adds deeper customization, improved pass code generation, and saving + loading personal presets. Premium Edition or Collectors Bundle owners can access 3 new maps, new demons, and fully upgraded new weapons after completing the DLC.
