Battle rivals and go for the gold in the latest look at Star Wars: Galactic Racer

Enemies will abound in Star Wars: Galactic Racer, as the latest look at the racing title showed more of the story behind the action.

Racing goes galactic

It’s tough not to look at Star Wars: Galactic Racer and think about what was one of the best-loved scenes from The Phantom Menace. Naturally, that’d be the pod-racing scene, which kicked off the prequel films with a cool new element.

From Secret Mode and developer Fuse Games, in conjunction with Lucasfilm Games, Star Wars: Galactic Racer looks like a sharp spin on that theme. We even got a glimpse of some pod-racers in the new trailer that hit last weekend. Not that it’ll be all pods though, as fans will take the helm of their own racer, and hit a series of tracks on their way to the gold. One potential issue though, are the other racers.

Rivalries will play a huge part in the upcoming game, which looks to have much more of a story to it than racers usually do. That centers on league owner Darius Pax, and a hand-picked racer called Shade. Said pod-jockey isn’t out just to win races though. Shade will be specifically looking to dethrone Kestar Bool, the current champ, who’s got a lock on the sport.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer invites elite pilots to join the Galactic League, an underground racing league born in the lawless Outer Rim, established by racing enthusiast Darius Pax. But while Pax may have founded the League, underhanded and well-connected racer Kestar Bool has become its champion, and will stop at nothing to maintain his grip on the title. With nowhere else to turn, Pax recruits Shade, a lone racer with a personal grudge against the Bool family, to enter the Galactic League and bring an end to Kestar’s reign before his corruption grows too deep to remove.

Choose your own race

As far as play goes, Star Wars: Galactic Racer looks like it’ll give players quite a bit of choice. Fans will engage with a “runs-based campaign, and can choose which events they participate in. Which races they enter will determine “unique unlocks and new challenges”. Quitting doesn’t seem like it’ll be an option either, and a failure sounds like it’ll mean more than just starting the race again.

There’s no turning back once an event is chosen, and if a pilot crashes too many times, they wreck out of the tour and will need to regroup, rebuild and begin again. Only certain perks and unlocks earned in previous attempts are carried over to the next run. Racers will start each tour from scratch with new decisions and choices to make for another chance to take down league champion Kestar Bool.

Secret Mode press release

As for settings, Star Wars: Galactic Racer will take place across a series of worlds. The just-revealed planet of Derven Acos will apparently be the “ultimate test in the Galactic League”. What’s that mean? Well, it means that the world will offer up every condition they might’ve previously played through, while making their way through the campaign. That should serve to keep players on their toes.

It’s a good thing Hibi will be on hand. She’s the circuit’s mechanic, and will be available on Derven Acos, as well as every other planet in the game. Using her shop, Shade will be able to “fit new parts either earned or bought from Hibi herself”. Those parts will net players stat boosts and abilities, enabling a customization mechanic to play.

With all of that, Star Wars: Galactic Racer is looking like it might be a nice surprise. We’ll have any more for you as we make our way towards the game’s release this fall. Fans can look for it to hit the PS5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC on October 6th, 2026.
