One of the most promising horror/action titles heading to release this fall, The Blood of Dawnwalker is apparently full of surprises.
A medieval Dawnwalker
From Rebel Wolves and publisher Bandai Namco, The Blood of Dawnwalker remains a title with a lot of promise. The game got a deeper look at this past weekend’s Summer Game Fest, and to say it was eye-opening is putting it mildly.
For those who might not know though, this open-world and horror-themed action/RPG is set in Europe’s middle-ages. It’s there that war and plague have left the human population of the Carpathian Mountains quite vulnerable. Taking advantage of that, is a vampire lord named Brencis. This is no mere night-stalker though, as he looks to set up his own kingdom. There’s a big problem for the blood-sucker though, and that’s Coen.
A man Brencis himself turned, Coen’s fueled by vengeance. But this is no straightforward vampire tale, as he has the unique ability to revert to a mortal state during the day. Just how that’s possible is a part of the story, but it segues into a game that offers two distinct styles of play.
Here’s the latest look at the game in action:
Fourteenth-century Europe is engulfed in chaos; bloody wars tear the continent apart, and the Black Death takes a deadly toll. This moment of weakness is seized by a clique of powerful vampires. The time of great change is coming … for everyone.
You play as Coen, a young man who has become a Dawnwalker, no longer human but not fully a vampire, sharing the strengths and weaknesses of both worlds.
Players follow Coen’s journey as he fights to save his family from Brencis, the vampire lord who rules his homeland, Vale Sangora, a mysterious region in the Carpathian Mountains. Along the way, he navigates uneasy alliances and dramatic confrontations, forging his own path in a world where every choice shapes both the story and the gameplay.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is heading to the PS5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC for release this fall. Look for it on September 3rd, 2026. That said though, we’re not done with talking about this game today. In addition to the above trailer, there was a CGI tease that you’ll want to check out.
Vampire horror, in the modern age
So, first things first, because Rebel Wolves is careful to say that the first The Blood of Dawnwalker game is going to be its own thing. Basically, that means that Coen’s origin story will play out in a self-contained manner. The game’s narrative will indeed lead to a decisive ending, one that won’t feature a cliffhanger.
That said though, the developer is also talking about the future of it as a potential series. And when it comes to that, oh boy does the company have plans. As you might’ve gleaned from the subheading above, said plans include bringing Coen into the modern age.
And while the video below is just a CGI tease, it’s nonetheless got us pretty pumped as to the future of Coen and The Blood of Dawnwalker.
“I have a feeling that today’s presentation may have surprised many of you who did not expect Coen’s saga to move into modern times. However, I would like to emphasize that each installment in the series will be a standalone game with its own story, without narrative cliffhangers, unresolved plot threads, or time travel ideas. Since forming Rebel Wolves, we have been very clear that we aim for The Blood of Dawnwalker to be a self-contained story, and now, as we approach the release of the first chapter, we wanted to shed a bit more light on our wider perspective and tease where the story ultimately leads,” said Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, Game Director and Co-Founder of Rebel Wolves.
“I love the potential that lies within Coen, as well as his powers and abilities as a Dawnwalker. His journey begins in a dark 14th-century fantasy world – a setting players deeply enjoy – and while it may feel familiar, the unique Carpathian Mountains setting will allow us to surprise them more than once. The next installments of his saga will bring new stories and new characters, but they will take place in different eras, locations, and cultures. Writing the narrative for projects of this scale is an incredibly satisfying undertaking. And while Coen and Brencis’ conflict will reach its conclusion in The Blood of Dawnwalker, attentive players will certainly come across breadcrumbs related to the overarching plot spanning the saga. I would love to share more, but for now, let’s wait for September 3 – the release of the game,” said Jakub Szamałek, Narrative Director at Rebel Wolves.
