NYCC ’26: IDW’s horror imprint taking the spotlight at the Con

IDW Goes Dark? That’s the name of the company’s latest initiative, one that’s set to figure into Comic Con in a big way.

Going Dark with IDW

Publisher of books that cover a multitude of themes, IDW has nonetheless delved into horror in a big way. That’s come via some well known spooky properties, but the theme is also about to expand past those borders. News along those lines will be kicking off at NYCC this very week, with IDW Goes Dark.

The company says that it’s got more than a few scare-filled tales on tap, and not only from the titles that you might expect. IDW will also be cooking up a host of original stories, plus infecting a chunk of its additional lineup. Yes, considering the books that IDW produces, that does sound a but crazy. But be that as it may, Hello Kitty, Sonic the Hedgehog, Godzilla, Star Trek, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will all be getting in on the terrifying act.

‘Tis the season after all.

“One of my earliest memories is the day I accidentally watched Stephen King’s It when I was nearly 5 years old,” said Heather Antos, Senior Group Editor and lead on the IDW Dark imprint. “One of my first jobs was working in my local haunted house as a teenager. And one of the first comics I ever fell in love with was Hellblazer. We’ve been blown away by the way fans have embraced IDW’s horror books, and this is our opportunity to give them even more of what they love while pushing these characters and worlds into places they’ve never gone before. We’re bringing together incredible creators, iconic licenses, bold new ideas, and the absolute best damn comics we can make– and I cannot wait to see just how dark we can go.”

More to come…

Now, as mentioned, there are some known quantities in with the horror mix too. IDW Goes Dark isn’t all about the unexpected. And to that end, genre fans should be on the lookout for A Quiet Place: Rising Tides, The Twilight Zone, Any Given Smile, and Event Horizon: Pandemonium. There’s more too, with the already-revealed originals that are Fatal Fest and Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees: The Summer and the Fall.

All in all, that’s a heady dose of terror. And in keeping with the theme, fans at NYCC will want to keep an eye out for some exclusive ashcans. Both Fatal Fest #1 and You’ll Never Leave This Place Alive #1 will be stocked in the IDW booth (#4551) “before they sell out”.

If you are going to be at the show this week too, you might want to check out IDW’s panel presentation. That’s set to take place in room 406.2 at 11:15am this Friday. And yes, it will hold some promised surprises, skewed towards the horror faithful.

One last thing too, as IDW has a series of signings and exclusives all planned out. You can check those out right here, on Comics Beat.
