CD Projekt Red‘s iconic RPG is back, with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered. Get a peek at that, and the new DLC, fresh from Gamescom.
The Witcher 3 returns, one more time
For a game that debuted in 2015, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting quite a bit of press lately. There’s good reason for the chatter though, as CD Projekt Red has apparently been quite busy. For one thing, there’s The Witcher 4, which is upcoming, but the company has been delving back into The Witcher 3 as well, for a fresh downloadable content pack.
That’s dubbed Songs of the Past, which is being co-developed with Fool’s Theory, and will star Geralt in the lead role for the last time. No, really this time, as the developer has made it official that the DLC will be the last expansion for the game. For a sendoff, it’s looking sharp, and will debut a whole new region of Geralt’s world to play in.
That will be Letten, an “idyllic land” that’s “rich in rural tradition and folklore”. But while the residents of the land enjoy festivals and make merry, there’s something else there… something darker. Of course, there’d kind of have to be, since Geralt is involved.
A teaser for Songs of the Past was also shared at gamescom Opening Night Live and revealed the brand new region of Letten. This idyllic land is rich in rural tradition and folklore, and its people enjoy a fulfilling life of bountiful harvests and lavish festivals. But a dark secret lurks just beneath the surface, and Geralt must overcome never-before-seen foes as he fights to overcome its long-dormant evil.

Songs of the Past launches in 2027 as a paid expansion for The Witcher 3 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. It is available to wishlist now across select platforms.
As you can see, Songs of the Past is coming up some time in 2027, for all modern platforms. Also very notable, is that the previous two expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, are going free. That’s right, owners of the base The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt game can take part in both DLC adventures free of charge.
And then, there’s that remaster to talk about.
Branching out
Another piece of big news that was revealed at Gamescom’s opening day, is that The Witcher 3 is getting remastered. Co-developed with Yigsoft this time, the title will be receiving “a slew of upgrades and enhancements”, according to CDPR. Those will include boosts to “visuals, performance, gameplay, and more”.
From the sound of it, fans can look for this new edition to alter and improve just about every aspect. The list touches on all major parts of the neo-classic, but also goes one step beyond. Some of what’s coming in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered borders on being brand new.
During gamescom Opening Night Live, an announcement trailer for The Witcher 3 — Remastered revealed a slew of upgrades and enhancements to visuals, performance, gameplay, and more are coming to the acclaimed role-playing game. Players can experience the entire epic adventure with upgraded visuals, enhanced combat, improved traversal and movement, new witcher signs effects, revamped mount handling, enhanced monster behaviors, a skill tree revamp, transmogrification, expanded photo mode, new finishers, and much more. Remastered will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S — plus, for the first time, a native version of the game will be released on Nintendo Switch 2, with pre-orders available now.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered will be a free upgrade for those who own the original game o “qualified platforms”. If you’re wondering what those might be, they’re the PC, PlayStation 5, and XBOX Series X|S. No, the Switch isn’t included in this new upgrade, for obvious reasons.
There is good news for Nintendo fans though, as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered will be coming to Switch 2. That’s not all either, as Battle.net will be getting its own edition, thanks to “a new partnership between CD PROJEKT RED and Blizzard Entertainment”. There’s even a little bonus for those who buy the game on Blizzard’s platform, in the form of a Geralt skin for Diablo 4. You can read more about the agreement between the two companies here on the official site, and then stay tuned. CD Projekt Red says that more will be revealed at BlizzCon next month.
As for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered‘s release date, that’s coming up fast. Fans can look for the reforged title to hit all platforms above on September 29th, 2026. Yep, next month.
