Snake is back, in Mad Cave’s Escape from New York one shot

The legendary Snake Plisskin is back and ready for a frigid new adventure, in Escape from New York: Escape from the North Pole.

Another Escape

It’s been a while since film fans have seen Snake Plisskin. The anti-hero, played by Kurt Russell, made his debut all the way back in 1981’s Escape from New York. From iconic director John Carpenter, the film became a cult classic, eventually spawning a sequel in 1996. That though, was it for the property as went the world of movies.

That’s not to say that we haven’t seen Snake in the decades since however, as Escape from New York’s universe has popped up from time to time. Now you can add one more appearance to the list too, with a fresh comic book one-shot set to hit stores from publisher Mad Cave.

And fro the sound of it, it’s wholly unlike what we’ve seen before. Forget the big city, as Escape from New York: Escape from the North Pole will send Snake into the frozen north. Or, more precisely, Canada. It’s there that Snake will fall victim to the Canadian Shield, who bust him in the midst of a smuggling operation. As things tend to go for the gruff character though, that’s just the beginning of this tale.

A name you might know from the radio, writer Fred Kennedy will be helming this tale, along with Danilo Beyruth. You might know him from the likes of Frank Miller Presents: Ancient Enemies, Carnage, and Ghost Rider. They’ll be joined by letterer Jeff Eckleberry, and cover artists Adam Gorham and Ken Lashley.

Mother Russia never forgets her children…

Hard-as-nails antihero Snake Plisskin is dragged to Camp Vincent (AKA Ellesmere Island Containment Facility), the northernmost prison in the world, after being caught smuggling contraband across the border. He’s now in the custody of the Canadian Shield, an organization tasked with patrolling the Arctic and wiping out any Soviet factions that remain following the aftermath of WWIII. Snake is an asset, and they intend to use him.

He’s given a choice: track down and rescue Soviet Geneticist Dr. Svetlana Lysenko from a Siberian Bioweapons facility where experiments have mutated into dangerous abominations, or remain on Ellesmere island… Permanently.

“I wanted this story to move at a clip,” expressed writer Fred Kennedy. “A non-stop pace, where every time you think you’ve got a second to catch your breath…nope, we pull the carpet out from under you. And Danilo is bringing it to the show! Every panel punches. Very VERY excited to see this book on the shelf.”

“It’s been a while since I’ve drawn a script packed with this much high-octane action,” added artist Danilo Beyruth. “Fred has brought that classic celluloid energy right onto the page—it’s pure Snake Plissken on paper.”

Mad Cave press release
