Crazy Taxi: World Tour revealed, races towards 2027 launch

Sega’s off-the-wall driving game is back in action, and helmed by creator Kenji Kanno. Here’s the first look at Crazy Taxi: World Tour.

Crazy Taxi is back

Rolling out of the XBOX Showcase yesterday, was a surprise reveal by Sega, with Crazy Taxi: World Tour. Even though the announcement wasn’t expected though, fans kind of knew this one was coming for a while. It was first revealed back in 2023 after all, in with a group of then-upcoming rebirths for Sega’s classic franchises. While most of those titles have yet to see the light of day, Shinobi launched last year, and now the return of Crazy Taxi is inbound.

From the looks of it, much of the classic gameplay will be intact for this sequel, and so is Axel. The wild-haired cabbie is back in action once again, though he’s got quite the quest in front of him this time. See Axel won’t just be shuttling fares, but instead is on the hunt for a thief who ‘jacked his favorite taxi.

But it’s not all story-mode, as Crazy Taxi: World Tour will also include online multiplayer, and customization options. Players will be able to both unlock vehicles and trick them out, to create their “own one-of-a-kind ride”.

Don’t worry too much though, as it sounds like fans of the classic formula might not be disappointed. That’s because, according to Sega, there’ll also be a Classic Mode.

Helmed by original Crazy Taxi creator Kenji Kanno, Crazy Taxi: World Tour will take players on a high-octane adventure around the globe. In the new World Tour story-driven campaign, players will play as Axel, chasing down mysterious masked villains who stole his beloved taxi all while tackling extreme missions and challenges!

Sega press release

Dig that soundtrack. Takes us back to the turn of the millennium, and we mean that in a good way. If you’re looking forward to cruising the streets and grabbing fares as much as we are, stay tuned. Sega says that there’s much more to come about Crazy Taxi: World Tour, as it heads towards its 2027 release.

Look for it to appear on the XBOX Series X|S and XBOX on PC, plus Steam, the PS5, and Switch 2. The title will also be a part of XBOX Play Anywhere, and wish-listing is open right now for all platforms except Nintendo’s.
