“From the Ward” talks the sound of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

Activision and developer Infinity Ward’s video series is back for a fourth outing. This time it’s all about the sound of Modern Warfare 4.

Sounds like Warfare. Modern Warfare, that is

Have you been paying attention to the post-launch cavalcade of information about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4? If so, then you know all about the From the Ward video series. That’s been rolling, with Activision and developer Infinity Ward featuring a different theme pertaining to the game in each installment.

This week kicked off with part four, which centers on sound design. We’re not talking about music and voice acting either, though we’re sure that’s coming. This time though, we’re talking about gunshots, rockets, engine sounds, and even stuff like magazines hitting the dirt.

Every shot matters.

Transforming IRL explosions into the immersive, cinematic soundscape of Modern Warfare 4 takes an incredible mix of craft, passion, and cutting-edge technology.

Go behind the scenes with InfinityWard and see the step by step process of bringing sound to life, from the field to the game.

Activision press release

That’s part four of this new series of developer documentaries, but if you need to catch up, we’ve got the first three for you as well. From the quartet, we’re getting the feeling that both Activision and Infinity Ward are taking this upcoming release as a re-establishment for the brand itself. If so, that’s very much welcome, given the player reaction to the latest releases under the franchise’s banner.

That’s been somewhat chilly, with the brand moving further away from its core fanbase, though we have to admit that we’ve liked some of what we’ve seen from it. At least, we have when it comes to the campaigns. Whether you’re still a CoD booster or not though, stay tuned, because there’s plenty more to come about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 before launch.

The first-person shooter is inbound for the XBOX Series X|S, PS5, PC, and Switch 2 this fall. Look for it on October 23rd, 2026, and check out the official site here.
