Frank West is back in action today, as Capcom’s remaster of the original Dead Rising is out for consoles and PC (in digital form).
Round one
Round one? Yes, “round one”, because there’s still a physical launch on the horizon for what’s a pretty impressive looking remastering of the original Dead Rising. Capcom took the wraps off of the classic’s new version this past summer, and now here we are on launch day one-of-two.
As we mentioned, today’s is the digital release, which brings the game to the Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC (via Steam). Included is the entire 2006 original, albeit seemingly altered to a degree in terms of content. That’s an adventure that’s now backed by the power of the RE Engine, delivering what certainly looks like more of a remake than a remaster.
If you’ve been trapped in a shopping mall for the last 18 years, Dead Rising Deluxe Remasterintroduces freelance photojournalist Frank West as he ventures to Willamette, Colorado after overhearing there is something unnatural going on in town. Frank soon finds out he is in the middle of a zombie takeover and has to survive for 72 hours! Whether players simply choose to survive or opt to take on the challenge of uncovering the truth about the outbreak is entirely up to them!
Capcom press release
Like we said above, the RE Engine is in full effect for Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, and that means 4K resolution with up to 60fps play. Along with the new engine comes an overhaul of the title’s cast, with all of the game’s NPC’s, zombies, and ol’ Frank himself looking sharp. Since the star is a photojournalist too, players can expect a photo mode that has more than just vanilla snapping.
Capcom has added in a series of filters like “Black and White, Sepia, Vintage, Pixel Art, and more”, to make your shots look that much more dramatic. It comes in along with a set of quality of life improvements like “Move while aiming! Customize your action shots! Auto-save! And a ton more!”, plus new language support and subtitles.
Along with the base game, today also beings the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Digital Deluxe Edition. That version is stocked with “17 wacky Frank West costumes like Licker, Mega Man, and Ashley Graham just to name a few, as well as 17 BGM tracks that can be played throughout the shopping mall.”
Finally, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention round two, bringing that physical version. Fans who prefer to add a shiny new box to their bookshelf will be able to do so on November 8th, 2024. Just in time for a little Holiday Season zombie-slaying.
