Origin Users Hit with Fraudulent Purchases

If you have an Origin account, carefully check your purchases as reports of false charges are piling up. At this moment, it does not appear to be the work of a hack on Origin/EA.

EA is asking all customers to use unique IDs and passwords as well as report any fraudulent activity to EA customer support. News hit Reddit yesterday on /r/Origin and quickly spread to the rest of the gaming community. Strangely, most of the purchases were for one title, FIFA 15.

EA is recommending that affected users remove payment options as well as set up the two-step authentication to prevent future issues. The login verification is very similar to the one that Steam uses for new devices. Whenever someone attempts to login from a new device/computer, a login code is sent to an email or phone number and must be entered to access the account on that particular device. The codes are also time sensitive as well as device specific.

EA appears to be handling the fraudulent activity well by quickly and competently addressing players concerns.
