The Forges of Corruption are open, as Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun’s expansion has arrived

The Ultramarine is back, and ready to purge some xenos and Chaos scum, in The Forges of Corruption for Warhammer 40K: Boltgun.

Get the bolter… the HEAVY bolter

It’s finally back. One of the best retro-FPS’ of 2023, and really one of the best retro-FPS’ of the last few years, developer Auroch Digital’s Warhammer 40K: Boltgun is back in action. The game has a fresh expansion pack that’s now available, landing alongside of a free update that adds a Horde Mode.

While the latter is fine and dandy as an appetizer though, it’s the (paid) story-based expansion DLC that’s the main course. Forges of Corruption is looking awesome too, as the starring Ultramarine finds himself up against the forces of Chaos once again, this time on the Forge World of Graia. Players will find themselves face-to-face with new enemies in the corrupted pits of that planet, like the Helbrute, the Havoc, and a lightning-clawed Terminator.

The “Forges of Corruption” DLC brings Boltgun’s bloodfest to another level. Play as a battle-hardened Space Marine on a perilous mission, as you purge the forces of the Archenemy. Dive into a brand-new chapter consisting of five levels with varied environments inspired by the grimdark lore of Warhammer 40,000.

Explore new environments and stop Chaos corruption before it engulfs the entire world of Graia! Exterminate new enemies: face the monstrous Helbrute, the heavy weapon-wielding Havoc, and the vicious lightning claws of the Terminator. Purge with new weapons – burn hordes of heretics with your Multi-melta or blow them away with the Missile Launcher.

Focus Entertainment press release

For the Horde! Oh wait…

As mentioned above, in addition to the paid stuff, there’s also a free Horde Mode to add to to your base game today. Exactly what it sounds like, the new Horde Mode comes in direct response to community feedback, tacking players with simply surviving against wave after wave of foes. More than just a simple play option though, the Horde Mode is framed by its own achievements and features four difficulty levels. So it’s pretty darned fully featured.

There’s more too, as today’s updates also brings a bunch of fixes and a Navigation Guide for the main campaign. The aim there is to assist players in making their way through the campaign’s levels. We had no issues with getting lost when we played through Boltgun, but if you did, then this one’s for you.

All of the above is out now for Warhammer 40K: Boltgun, on Nintendo Switch, PC, and Xbox and PlayStation platforms.
