Spyro is back, with a new game coming up in 2027

The purple dragon is back in action. Activision and Toys for Bob will be bringing Spyro: A Realm Beyond to consoles and PC in 2027.

Spyro is finally ready to ignite a new adventure

It’s been a while, and we mean a long, long while, since fans have see a new Spyro game. Sure, there were the pretty great remakes that made the rounds a few years ago. We’re not talking about those though, we mean a wholly original game in the series, and that hasn’t seen the light day since 2008.

But much like with Crash Bandicoot, Spyro is following up on his remakes with just that, a fresh game. That title is Spyro: A Realm Beyond, heading to consoles and the PC from Activision and developer Toys for Bob. And according to the press release, it could be just what fans have been looking for.

For one thing, the title promises to present a brand new world, with an emphasis on exploration. As for the gameplay in that world, Activision says that players can look for an evolution of the classic formula. Don’t expect it to be a carbon copy of the classics though, as there’ll also be some new gameplay onboard.

Part of that? Yeah, it’s flight. And to that end, Activision makes a specific point of it to say that they’re not mincing words. Spyro: A Realm Beyond will let players actually take to the skies. Add in the return of actor Tom Kenny in the title role, and you’ve got a game to watch.

For the first time in nearly two decades Spyro returns in a completely original adventure featuring a brand new world, expanded exploration and new gameplay that evolve the classic experience in exciting ways. 

Built to welcome a new generation while giving longtime fans something entirely fresh, Spyro: A Realm Beyond invites players to explore, discover, and take flight like never before. That’s right; not gliding, not a limited set of flight levels. True dragon flight. 

Renowned voice actor Tom Kenny returns to voice Spyro, bringing the iconic purple dragon into a bold new era.

Pumped for an all-new adventure starring the classic dragon? Well, stay tuned, as Spyro: A Realm Beyond will be coming up some time in the spring of 2027. Fans will be able to look for it on the XBOX Series X|S, XBOX Cloud, and XBOX for PC, plus the PS5, Switch 2, and Steam (for the PC).
