Tomb Raider remasters landing on consoles and PC in February

There are some games that are iconic in ways that few reach, and the original Tomb Raider series is definitely among them.

Raiding again

First launched in 1996, both Tomb Raider and its main character Lara Croft quickly made an impact. An immediate hit, Tomb Raider has since spawned two full series’, as well as offshoots and spinoffs, selling over 95 million copies overall. And now that original (and some might say still the best) set of games is coming back around.

Announced just last week, the original Tomb Raider trilogy is getting a full remaster, and is looking better than ever. Crystal Dynamics has partnered with retro-focused company Aspyr for that, and will be delivering all three games as a bundle for both consoles and PC. Along with improved visuals and “performance enhancements”, Aspyr says to expect a full collection of expansions.

To that end, the first game will include the “Unfinished Business” pack, while Tomb Raider II will feature “Gold Mask” and Tomb Raider III will have “The Lost Artifact”. With all of that onboard, the new collection should make as complete a retrospective as has ever been produced.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft lets long-time fans and newcomers alike step into the boots of the iconic hero in her first three adventures like never before. Experience the classic action and innovative gameplay that helped pioneer 3D gaming, spawned a beloved franchise which has sold more than 95 million copies worldwide since its debut in 1996, and made Lara Croft one of the most recognizable video game characters in the world.

Players can experience the journey their own way, with the ability to toggle on the fly between enhanced and original graphics, as well as switch between classic and modern joystick control schemes. Fans will also discover a variety of quality-of-life improvements, including camera lock-on and achievements.

Aspyr press release

As mentioned too, we have a release date for the bundle, which will bring Lara back to fans or Valentine’s Day. Look for “Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft” (there’s a mouthful) to arrive for Xbox and PlayStation platforms, plus the Switch and the PC, on February 14th, 2024. Pre-orders should be open now.
