3D Realms gets behind horror/FPS Ripout

Developer Pet Project Games announced Ripout, its horror FPS a while back, but now 3D Realms has stepped in to bring the game to market.

Ripout Realms

You might remember seeing Ripout a while ago. The first-persons shooter has a decidedly sci-fi/horror bent to it, and offers both solo and co-op play. It’s also got some serious System Shock/BioShock/The Thing vibes. There’s a reason for that too, since Pet Project Games says that Ripout was designed with a “retro vision of the best of ‘80s science fiction” in mind.

Now that the title is narrowing in on a release date too, publisher 3D Realms has taken it on. The company will bring the game to the already announced PC, but also the Xbox Series X|S and PS5.

Here’s the lates look at it in action:

Powered by Unreal Engine, RIPOUT takes you on an action-packed fight for survival beyond Earth. After genetically engineering a powerful bioweapon to save itself from alien invaders, humanity falls victim to its own creation. You awaken in the year 2084 as one of Earth’s last surviving soldiers. Alone amongst the mutated monstrosities of mankind, will you safeguard our legacy… or will our species be forever consumed by the void?

Ripout press release

As you can see there, while there will be a fully playable co-op mode in Ripout, it’s by no means a multiplayer-only game. What might not be apparent, is that its levels are procedurally generated. So that means it should offer a different experience with every run.

Customization will also be a focus. 3D Realms says that the game will offer the ability to tweak your character, with a loadout that fits your style of play.

No release date yet, but look for Ripout at retail some time later this year.
