Injustice 2 expands with Raiden, Black Manta, and Hellboy

You read that right Injustice fans, Hellboy is joining the roster of the DC Comics fighting sequel. Get ready to wield the right hand of doom.

Hellboy is loose in the Injustice universe

Well isn’t this a surprise? Oh come on, you didn’t see this one coming, admit it. With a second round of Injustice 2 DLC characters planned, fans were guessing pretty wildly as to who’d be included. Everyone from Constantine to Image Comics’ Spawn were suggested, but I don’t think anyone thought of Mike Mignola’s Hellboy.

The Dark Horse Comics character is a demon, who was summoned by the mad monk Rasputin to serve the Axis in WWII. But when he arrived, he was just a child. An Allied team claimed him from the enemy. They raised him as a kind of special forces agent trained to fight against evil supernatural baddies.

Hellboy has been a force for Dark Horse, starring in hundreds of comics and spawning two feature films with a reboot on the way. He’s as big as characters get on the printed page, and Mignola’s (arguably) greatest creation.

He has crossed over with DC Comics characters before I believe, so this isn’t exactly virgin ground for Big Red. Still it’s as unexpected as any other comic book character. Personally, I thought there was a chance that we’d see Spawn since he appeared in Soul Calibur and it seems like Image Comics is pretty cool with loaning the hero out. That said, I’m way happier with Hellboy. Just too awesome.

Returning Kombatant and new villain

He’s joined by Raiden from Mortal Kombat (sigh) of course, and DC’s Black Manta, one of Aquaman’s biggest foes. Even with Raiden, who’s not a terrible choice if we had to have another MK character, that’s an awesome pack.

Watch for the above to hit starting on September 12th, as the Fighter Pack #2 for Injustice 2 will bring the first of the three fighters. Pick up the pack, and you’ll have access to all three newcomers as they arrive, before anyone else can buy ’em separately.
