SDCC 26: A classic returns with the KB Toy Soldier

An icon of the toy industry, KB Toys‘ mascot is back, as Icon Heroes is prepping an 80th Anniversary Gold Toy Soldier Bobblehead.

KB was the place

We’re thinking that it’s probably fair to say that we all miss the dedicated toy stores. Sure, there are a ton of them online, but we’re talking about the brick and mortar kinds of shop. Those were plentiful in past decades, and there were a few gems that hit some pretty big highs.

KB is definitely amongst those. This writer has more than a handful of fond memories of the place, and digging through discount video games and action figures. We were stoked a few years ago, to post about a potential return for the brand, but that rebirth has seemingly fallen flat at this point.

Nevertheless, the memories remain, and so does that famous Toy Soldier. Collectibles company Icon Heroes remembers too, and will be picking up the baton for the classic mascot. The result is a pretty slick looking item, with the KB Toys 80th Anniversary Gold Toy Soldier Bobblehead.

“KB Toys holds a special place in the hearts of collectors and toy fans,” said Patrick Wang, President of Icon Heroes. “We’re honored to help celebrate its 80th Anniversary with a collectible that pays tribute to the memories and excitement of walking into a KB Toys store.”

Icon Heroes press release

Official licensed, the above bobblehead will sport a metallic gold finish, and is a special edition just for SDCC. The figure is made from resin and yes, actually works, with a spring-mounted bobblehead. It’s set to come complete with a certificate of authenticity as well, and will stand in at 8″.

Now, as mentioned, Icon Heroes says that this will be a limited piece. Fans will only be able to obtain one via the company’s Comic Con booth later this month, which will be #4344.
