Wolfenstein: The New Order’s alternate timeline looks pretty bleak in new trailer

The alternate version of the 1960’s that Wolfenstein: The New Order is set in is looking like every bit the kick in the pants that the long running series needs. Oh, and keep in mind while you’re watching the trailer that this is actual in-game stuff you’re seeing.

That’s a really stiff penalty for a foul. Like, really harsh.

As a big fan of Wolfenstein from way back, that trailer brings a pretty big smile to my face- penalty aside. The graphics look absolutely fantastic and the character designs are what you’d expect to see from a Wolf title, but with some very cool high-tech twists that we really haven’t seen from the series before.

While the setting might be radically different from what B.J Blazkowicz has fought his way through in the past, it’s unmistakably Wolfenstein too and carries the unique mix of high tech/creepy medieval styles that the games are kind of known for. Many of the themes of the franchise definitely look to be still securely in place (which is a good thing) from what we’ve seen so far, but the added elements that developer MachineGames has added are definitely all their own and really gives the game a new and interesting feel. Personally, I can’t wait to dig into the full game and see what old ‘Deathshead’ and his crew have in store for the Allied freedom fighters.

Wolfenstein: The New Order takes control on the Xbox One/360, PS4/3, and PC on May 20th.You can still score a copy of the super-limited Panzerhund Edition via Bethesda’s online storefront, and don’t forget about that packed-in Doom Beta either. If you’ve been waiting for news on that one with bated breath, pre-ordering Wolfenstein: The New Order is the best way to snag a spot in the Beta.
