Marvel is heading back to the 80s, to re-present the Further Adventures of Indiana Jones. Look for a pair of hardcovers this fall.
If adventure has a name, it must be Indiana Jones
Back in the 1980s, there were few film series’ as big as Indiana Jones. Starring Harrison Ford, the movie trilogy presented a set of mystic-fueled adventures that brought the title star around the world. On his way, Indy clashed with Nazi forces and Thuggee Cults alike, as he hunted down powerful religious artifacts. After all, they belonged in a museum.
In that same era, the archeologist would take to the world of comics, with a series from Marvel. That wasn’t all that outside the lines at the time of course, as Marvel Comics published more than a few adaptations and spinoffs, playing off of popular TV and film properties.
In the case of Indy though, he had more than one. Marvel translated his films to the printed page, sure, but also offered a set of totally original adventures. Through the decades since, those adventures have been largely forgotten, but they’re about to make a comeback.
Said return will take place across two hardcover editions. Fans can look for both Indiana Jones: The Further Adventures Book I and Indiana Jones: The Further Adventures Book II to land in stores this September. And in their pages, they’ll find what sounds like all of the aforementioned.
The collections will include the comic adaptations of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, as well as the entire run of The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones, the beloved series that expanded on the Indiana Jones mythology in blockbuster fashion with action-packed new quests. Featuring leatherette binding, debossed cover designs and ribbon bookmarks, these special volumes are treasures worthy of Indy himself and must-haves for collectors and fans alike.
With clouds of war gathering ominously over Europe and a Great Depression gripping the world, one globe-trotting professor’s appetite for adventure and discovery remains unsated! Join Dr. Henry Jones as he scours the farthest corners of the planet in a constant race to keep priceless artifacts out of the wrong hands!
Marvel press release
Further Adventures, in print
If you’re an Indy fan and you’re looking to dive into his comics collection, these upcoming books look like they might be the best option. The pair certainly seem to be the full set of what Marvel brought to fans.
The talent present is beastly too. We actually didn’t realize the level of creative teams that were put on the books, which included the likes of David Michelinie, Walt Simonson, John Byrne, John Buscema “and many more”. Those are some huge names, ones that more traditionally worked on Marvel’s superhero titles.
As for the stories that are onboard, Indiana Jones: The Further Adventures Book I is packed. It’ll include:
Marvel Super Special (1977) #18 and #30
Raiders of the Lost Ark film adaptation
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom film adaptation
The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones (1983) #1-16
Finishing the tale, Indiana Jones: The Further Adventures Book II s certainly no slouch. Between its covers, fans will find:
Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade (1989) film adaptation #1-4
The Further Adventures Of Indiana Jones (1983) #17-34
Ready to dig into the history of Indiana Jones in comics? Both Indiana Jones: The Further Adventures Book I and Indiana Jones: The Further Adventures Book II should be shipping to stores at the close of September. Look for them to be in shops on September 30th, 2026.
