It’s finally official. Nintendo has revealed that the Super Mario Bros movie is actually happening, and that Illumination will be producing.
Big screen kingdom
Yes folks, the Mushroom Kingdom is on the way to the silver screen once again. But while Nintendo’s first foray into a Super Mario film wasn’t all that good (I’m being kind for the fans), this new movie has a serious chance at greatness.
Nintendo has worked out a deal with Illumination, which is the company that brought the Despicable Me movies to theaters. That’s a very solid background, and could mean that Super Mario will be getting the treatment it deserves.
Of course, that also mean that this will be an animated film, which is a very good thing in my opinion. I really don’t think we need another live-action debacle (stop, it was terrible and you know it).
Illumination’s Chris Meledandri will be producing in specific, and Universal Pictures will be co-financing and distributing. That’s all the info that’s out there right now, but it’s all pretty positive news.
As long as Nintendo stays involved, which they apparently will since Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto will be onboard as well, this has a chance at being something very fun indeed. Stay tuned for more.
