One: 12 Collective Frankenstein (Action Figure) Review

Rising from the dead, the iconic monster Frankenstein makes his One:12 Collective debut from Mezco. Frankenstein is a simple figurine, but don’t let that scare you away from picking him up.

It’s alive. IT’S ALIVE!

This figurine is based on the 1931 film from Universal, “Frankenstein.” This black and white film was the bee’s knees back in the day. Aside from major film stars, Colin Clive and Mae Clark, Boris Karloff portrayed the tall and unforgettable monster, Frankenstein. This monster’s story starts in a laboratory, late one night.

Frankenstein One:12 CollectiveObsessed with cheating death, Dr. Henry Frankenstein (Clive) worked night and day to reanimate his creation. Then finally, during a violent rain storm, Dr, Frankenstein flips the switch and sends millions of watts of electricity into Frankenstein and alas – he lives! Rising from the dead, the monster Frankenstein slowly climbs off his slab and the world is introduced to Frankenstein for the first time.

Dazed and confused, Frankenstein has no idea where he is or who he is and he is. After some back and forth between the good doctor and his creation, the monster Frankenstein runs away. Monster Frankenstein roams the fields and eventually finds a little girl playing in a river. Intrigued by the little girl, Frankenstein begins to play and interact with the child. While experiencing innocence for the first time, Frankenstein losses his innocence and accidentally tosses the little girl into the river, and unfortunately drowns.

Frankenstein on the run

Now the monster Frankenstein is confused and upset, because he is unable to grasp what has happened. The monster Frankenstein tries to return home, but is not welcomed and winds up hurting more people. None of this matters though as the farmer finds his daughter and brings her to town. The farmer gets the town all riled up and they decide the town must hunt down this terrible monster.

During the search, Dr. Frankenstein strays from the group and encounters his creation. The monster Frankenstein, confused and upset, attacks the doctor and knocks him to the ground. The monster grabs the doctor and drags him to the old mill for his last stand. The town finds the two atop of the wind mill when the monster Frankenstein throws the doctor out the window. The doctor survives the fall and the towns then burns down the wind mill, trapping the monster Frankenstein inside.

At the time, this movie was a horror master piece. Even today, the film still holds that nostalgic feeling and is a great movie to experience. The simplistic approach to special effects and the movie itself, goes a long way in setting up the scary experience.

FRANKENSTEIN!

The packaging for Frankenstein is simple. The box art is in black and white. The front of the box is all black except for the white Frankenstein title. The is a fantastic approach to packaging Frankenstein. This method does a great job of capturing that old-school movie style.

There is a slip to go with the Frankenstein opening panel. The inside of the opening panel contains several movie scenes, all in black and white. The back of the box displays pictures of the actual Frankenstein figure. This simplistic approach to the Frankenstein figure carries over to his accessories.

Simple but effective

This figurine does have a ton of accessories included. He comes with two heads, two sets of hands and a pair of hand cuffs. It may not seem like a lot, but these pieces are effective in providing that nostalgic 1931 film. The two heads either give Frankenstein a mean look or there is a the absent face look. The mean face does a great job of capturing the character made so famous by Karloff. The look is spot on and sculpture is done well. The two sets of hands were also made well.

Frankenstein One:12 Collective

One set of the hands has curled fingers while the other set of hands as outstretched fingers. The second set makes for a great addition so that Frankenstein can be poised in his iconic arms-stretched out poise. The last item included is a set of handcuffs. The handcuffs can clasps together to bind Frankenstein – it is a nice little addition.

There may not be a lot of accessories, but the ones included do a great job of capturing the character.

Frankenstein will make a great addition

This is the first Universal Monster to be adapted to Mezco’s One: 12 Collective line and it is a great adaptation. Mezco did a great job of really capturing that look and feel of the 1931 film. You can see it throughout the packaging, the accessories of course, the actual figure. While Frankenstein may not have as many points of articulation, anyone familiar with the monster, should know he does not move around. The Dr. Frankenstein pieced this monster together from old cadavers and he had limited range of motion. Again, this is another testament to the attention of detail that goes into the One:12 Collective.

To clothe the mosnter, Mezco put the classic all black outfit on Frankenstein. The soft clothe allows for more actionable poises. Throughout this entire character, there is a simple is more approach. Mezco did a wonderful job of capturing the look and feel and I am excited for any future Universal Monster releases.

Frank is fantastic!

Frankenstein is a great figure to pick up. While he does not come with a lot of accessories, it makes sense for such a simple but effective monster.
