Crazy Taxi Closed Network Test coming this September

Sega’s classic Crazy Taxi is coming back with a fresh riff on a classic map. Before it arrives though, there’s a network test to check out.

Fans of the classic Dreamcast and arcade driving title Crazy Taxi won’t have too long to wait until the series’ first new game in ages arrives. That’s scheduled for 2027, and so far at least, it’s looking suitably insane. And by that, we mean that it looks like Crazy Taxi.

Officially called Crazy Taxi: World Tour, the upcoming title will serve up both single and multiplayer modes. It’ll also have multiple maps, including the return of the West Coast, an iconic locale. That level won’t just include speed and fares though, as it will also come packing real-world storefronts. Sega cites the original game’s aesthetic as the reason for that, so fans can expect to see the likes of IHOP and Amoeba Music included for this sequel.

We’ve been told that there’ll be more shops as well, so the above won’t be it, though Sega’s mum on what else might appear. For now though, you can get your first look at the West Coast, pancake eatery and all, in the fresh trailer below.

Echoing the spirit of the original game, Crazy Taxi: World Tour will continue the tradition of including in-game storefronts of popular real-life retailers. With the new game set to take players on a globetrotting adventure, each World Tour map will feature regional retailers. Some storefronts and destinations confirmed to be in the West Coast map include iconic brands such as IHOP and Amoeba Music. 

Players can look forward to additional in-game storefronts and retailers to be announced alongside the reveals of remaining World Tour maps.

Crazy Network Test

Now, we did mention that there was a Network Test to talk about as well. And yes, there is one, though it’ll be a ‘closed’ Test. That’s to mean that you’ll have to apply to get in on it. To that end, Sega says that fans who’d like to participate in the Closed Network Test should head over to the official website.

There they’ll be able to see further details, including participating countries, plus the requirements. The application period is open now, and will close on August 31st, 2026. And if you do apply and are selected, it sounds like you’ll get a heavy dose of Crazy Taxi: World Tour multiplayer.

Players who gain access will be able to get into the Pickup Race and Cops ‘N’ Cabbies modes. There’s more too, as both of those modes will be playable via Ranked Matches and Custom Matches. That last modifier sounds particularly neat, since fans will be able to set their own “custom lobbies and rules”.

Here’s the full scoop, from Sega, on what’ll be included in the Closed Network Test:

• In Pickup Race, up to 6 players will compete with each other to drop off as many passengers as possible within a set time limit, earning as much crazy money as possible.
• In Cops ‘N’ Cabbies, players will be split into two, 3-person teams competing against each other
• Players will be able to race across 2 maps and choose between 4 characters and 6 cars with various tune-up options.

While it’s great that some fans will get an early look at Crazy Taxi: World Tour in action, keep in mind that there is a purpose for the test. As you might’ve imagined, that’ll be to “test the stability of the online multiplayer functionality ahead of the game’s full release”. It’s also looking like it’ll be wide-ranging, since the Closed Network Test will be cross-platform.

As for when all of this will kickoff, look for Crazy Taxi: World Tour‘s Closed Network Test to start at 5pm (pacific time) on September 11th, 2026. From there, it’ll run through 5pm (also pacific) on September 13th, 2026.
