SEGA celebrates 35 years of Sonic with fresh merch

There are a whole lot of new Sonic gear, collectibles, and more posted on SEGA’s online shop. It’s all to celebrate 35 years of speed.

Sonic hits the shop

Way back in the summer of 1991, the console wars were running hot. We don’t mean like today either, as things were a lot more divided (if you can believe that) back then. SEGA’s 16bit Genesis console had a few years in the bag at that point too, and was doing well against an aging NES. Even so though, the Genesis still hadn’t found a ‘signature’ game or series. And the pressure was on, with the Super Nintendo console about to debut.

Needless to say though, that flagship title was about to hit hard, with a mascot that’s still going strong today. Of course, that was Sonic the Hedgehog, whose original installment was a smash hit, landing in stores on June 23rd of that year. And since we’ve hit a magical 35 year anniversary of the happening this very week, SEGA is celebrating.

Among other things, that includes a smattering of fresh merchandise, all available on the company’s official web shop, powered by DPI Merch. There fans will find clothing, collectibles, plush and more, with all of those goodies being ready for purchase as you read this.

Highlights include a terrific looking statue for $184.99 USD, that reflects Sonic’s very first run through Green Hill Zone. From there, a tee that shares the Green Hill aesthetic with a 35th bent caught our eye ($34.99 USD), along with a super-cool snapback that touts “Unlimited Possibilities” ($34.99 USD). We assume that’s in reference to blast processing, but we’re not sure.

Those are our faves, but take a scroll down the page here to peruse the full collection.

Along with al of the above, there’s also a 35th Anniversary Journal. While we don’t have an image of that to share, we can tell you that it features lined pages, and boasts illustrations of Sonic, those iconic rings, and the Chaos Emerald on the cover. On the back? That’d be the Sonic 35th logo.
