No, you’re not imagining that headline. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a surprise expansion in 2027, with Songs of the Past.
Geralt isn’t done yet
Not too long ago, we showed you the first hints at what the fourth Witcher title is going to look like. While it wasn’t gameplay, the look that CD PROJEKT RED shared was pretty impressive nonetheless. But of course, that early peek also didn’t have Geralt. The hero of The Witcher saga is set to take a backseat in part four, giving way to Ciri as the heroine. And that’ll be leaving fans without any more of the former lead’s adventures to look forward too. Or not.
While he’s looking like he still won’t be included in The Witcher 4, Geralt actually isn’t finished just yet. That was revealed today, as the publisher/developer took the wraps off of Songs of the Past. That’ll be the name of the upcoming third expansion pack for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Songs of the Past
Yes, a game that saw release way back in 2015 is about to get a totally new piece of downloadable content. And while that might be a little wild to think about, keep in mind that said game is a modern legend. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is pretty easily one of the most celebrated action/RPG’s of all time. It’s got some 60 million copies sold, and a whopping 250 game of the year awards to its credit. So to get more of it in the modern era? Yeah, that’s pretty great news, all things considered.
Well, we assume it is anyway, since there are no details to share right now. We do know that CD PROJEKT RED will be co-developing Songs of the Past with Fool’s Theory however, and that it’ll be appearing for addition to the base game on the PC, PS5, and XBOX Series X|S. No word on any possible Switch edition just yet.
Fans can look for much more to be released about Songs of the Past later this summer. And in the meantime, feel free to check out the official site for The Witcher series.
