Microsoft’s all-you-can-play Xbox subscription service scores a gem. CD Projekt Red’s RPG Cyberpunk 2077 is coming to Game Pass.
Nova, Cyberpunk 2077 is on the way
It started with a pretty brief set of hints, which led into some heavy rumoring via social media. Now though, we’ve got the confirmation. Indeed, one of the best first-person role-playing games in recent years is coming to Xbox Game Pass Premium and Ultimate.
We’re talking about CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 of course, though it wasn’t always as great as it is today. And by that, we mean that the adaptation of the tabletop game has grown by leaps and bounds since its original launch in December of 2020. If you haven’t been paying attention, there’s been an absolute cavalcade of post-launch content added in. But maybe more importantly, all the big bugs have been eliminated.
Bringing it back around though, if for some reason you have yet to actually play the game in question, we’ve got good news for you. Well, it’s good news if you’re an Xbox Game Pass Premium or Ultimate subscriber anyway. And that’s because V and company will be making their way to Microsoft’s subscription service.
Base game, plus the updates
Let’s get this out of the way first. No, the excellent expansion that is Phantom Liberty won’t be in the mix for this Game Pass launch. Not that you should have really expected that though, as it’s typically not how Game Pass releases work. So yeah, this release is for the base game only. But all the same, what’ll be hitting the service is as complete as possible otherwise.
That said however, there is one caveat. And that’s that the two generations that host the game will be a little different in terms of content. On the one hand, CD Projekt Red says that the Game Pass version of Cyberpunk 2077 for Xbox Series X|S will include its full set of updates. That’s not quite so for the Xbox One edition though, as that’ll be boosted only to Update 1.6.

Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox Series X|S comes with every update released for the game since launch, which brought myriad technical improvements, new features, and additional content such as quests, vehicles, and character customization options. Players on Xbox Series X can also play Cyberpunk 2077 at 60 frames per second in Performance Mode or with 4K Ultra HD visuals in Quality Mode. Players on Xbox One will receive Cyberpunk 2077 and everything released up to and including Update 1.6 — the Edgeruners Update.
CD Projekt Red press release
Whichever platform you choose to play on though, both will be hitting in concert. Game Pass Premium and Ultimate subscribers (via the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One) will be able to download and play the base Cyberpunk 2077 experience in just a few days. Look for it to land on March 10th.
