Some huge Gears of War news today, not with the upcoming “E-Day” prequel, but instead a remaster of the original, and it’s coming to PS5.
Emergence Day
Well, it’s official, Gears of War is a multiplatform series. Odd as that is to write, it’s accurate, as Microsoft announced today that one of the historically biggest Xbox exclusives will indeed be making the jump to PlayStation 5. As of right now though, we’re not talking about the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day, but instead a newly revealed remaster of the classic original adventure.
Titled Gears of War: Reloaded, the fresh game was developed by The Coalition, but “in partnership” with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief. Fans can look for it to land this summer, and bring console and PC action fans a full remaster of the 2006 classic.
Gears of War: Reloaded will run in 4K resolution, with 60fps in the campaign and up to 120fps in multiplayer, according to Xbox Wire. Additionally, Xbox Wire adds that “4K assets and remastered textures”, “Enhanced post-processing visual effects”, “Improved shadows and reflections”, will all be a part of the package, along with no loading screens whatsoever in the campaign.

Fans looking for multiplayer should be pleased too, as the game will serve up its classic 2 player co-op, and 8 player multi. Want to get online with friends playing on other platforms? Well you can, thanks to “cross-progression and cross-play, across all platforms” according to Microsoft.
While the game’s appearing on the PS5 (and the PC), long time Xbox fans won’t be left out in the cold. Owners of a digital copy of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on Microsoft’s platform will be able to grab the new game for free. All you need to get in on the action is to have bought a digital copy of that 2015 release some time “prior to 16:00 UTC on May 5, 2025”. If you did, then you can look for a direct message (presumably on your actual Xbox) to deliver a download code for the new version, some time before Gears of War: Reloaded drops.
For everybody else, rev up those Lancers, because Gears of War: Reloaded is a part of Xbox Play Anywhere, and arrives for Xbox Series X|S, both Xbox PC and Steam, PS5, and Xbox Cloud Gaming on August 26th. Whew. Oh, and yep, if you’re a Game Pass Ultimate or Game Pass PC subscriber, you’ll find it included there as well, natch’.
