Sniper Elite: Resistance lands behind enemy lines on consoles and PC

Taking place contemporaneously with Sniper Elite 5, Rebellion’s WWII action series returns with Sniper Elite: Resistance.

Ooh headshot

Sniper Elite fans have another epic mission to undertake as of this week, with Sniper Elite: Resistance‘s arrival on consoles and PC. Developer Rebellion’s latest, Sniper Elite: Resistance stocks a full and standalone campaign, but takes place at the same time as Sniper Elite 5. How’s that possible? Well, it stars a new main character, that’s how, with Harry Hawker.

Stepping into the main role for the first time, Hawker learns of a new kind of Wunderwaffe that’s so dangerous it might tip the balance of the war towards the Axis. So naturally, he’s off to German-controlled France for a foray behind enemy lines.

The Nazi war machine won’t know what hit it.

In Sniper Elite: Resistance, Harry Hawker, agent of the Special Operations Executive (SOE), takes the lead role for the first time in the series as he discovers an insidious new Wunderwaffe – something so powerful, it guarantees the Nazis would win the war. This new standalone story runs in parallel to the events of Sniper Elite 5 and turns the attention toward the hidden war, far from the front lines, deep within the heart of occupied France.

Rebellion press release

As you can see there, while the hero is new, the action will be in keeping with the series. Fans can expect the popular x-ray cam to make a return, marking well-placed shots with gruesome visions of their damage. And of course, along with the sniping, Rebellion says to expect “stealth and tactical third-person combat”. So if you’re a fan, you should be right at home as you lead Hawker through war-torn France.

That’s not to say that there’s nothing new though, as the game will also offer Propaganda Missions. Something wholly original to the series, Propaganda Missions will allow players to become a Resistance Fighter. But that’s only if they can find the “unique Resistance poster in each of the main campaign’s levels”. So keep your eyes open.

Along with the campaign, players will be able to engage with a little online play. According to the press release, Sniper Elite: Resistance also features “cat-and-mouse multiplayer in the fan-favorite Invasion mode”, plus “adversarial multiplayer”.

A heaping helping of WWII action is in store for fans in Sniper Elite: Resistance, which is out right now for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and the PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store). It’s also up on Game Pass right now, so if you’re a subscriber you can hit that download.
