The mysterious next game in the Assassin’s Creed series to be revealed this week

Formerly working-titled Codename Red, Ubisoft has announced an incoming reveal event for Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

The Shadows know

Remember Codename Red? Originally announced in 2022, Red was revealed along with a bevy of other (at the time) upcoming projects like Codename Hexe, Codename Jade, and the now-launched Assassin’s Creed Mirage. That was then though, and this is now, and it looks like big Red is finally ready to take the main stage at an event all its own.

Ubisoft has announced that Shadows will get a special event to that end, happening on May 15th at 9am pacific time. The setting for this new adventure will be the oft-asked for Japan, as AC gets an Eastern take on the headlining order of assassins. If you’re looking for more though, you’re going to have to wait, as we don’t know anything further about Assassin’s Creed Shadows just yet.

Set in Feudal Japan, the game was previously teased on September 2022 as Assassin’s Creed Codename RED during the very first brand showcase dedicated to the Assassin’s Creed franchise. To rewatch this showcase, please visit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SS_khJE0mbQ.

Ubisoft press release

What you’re seeing above, of course, is a placeholder till the big show goes live later this week. At that time (May 15th at 9am pacific), you’ll be able to hit play and presumably see the first glimpses of Assassin’s Creed Shadows in action.

If you’d prefer not to wait though, there is a way that you might be able to get in on something a little ahead of time. While we’d guess there won’t be anything too in-depth revealed early, fans can check out a special countdown on Assassin’s Creed’s social media channels. Said “countdown” takes the form of an hourglass puzzle, and solving it holds the promise that “Those who succeed will be rewarded”, according to the publisher.

So if you’re game, go give it a shot.
