Check out the new animated-comic lead-in for Sonic Frontiers’ Final Horizon update

Sega has released a special animated comic to lead the way towards Sonic Frontiers’ Final Horizon update.

The gang’s all here

Launched in 2022, Sonic Frontiers tried something pretty different with the little blue guy. Well, not that different really, since the names of the game were still speeding through wild worlds, bashing badniks, and ring-collecting.

But the thing was that Sega’s mascot did all of the above by going into what was basically an open-world, kind of a first for the franchise. Plus, there was also a massive visual (and tonal) shift from what fans expected. While the game still had sections that looked like classic Sonic, it also brought in a more realistic, natural landscape to supplement.

If that sounds like a radical departure, it really was, but it was also something that felt truly ‘new’ for the first time in a while. Now almost a year later, Frontiers is finally about to come to an end by way of a third update, bringing a beefy story expansion called Final Horizon. It arrives later this month.

So that’s your lead-in right there for Final Horizon, an animated comic just released by Sega. The video sets up what looks to be a story that’ll include all the usual Sonic the Hedgehog heroes, and yes, you’ll be able to play as each of them.

As mentioned too, Final Horizon is coming up fast at this point, with a launch scheduled for September 28th, 2023 (for all versions of the title). You will need a copy of the base game to play it, but Final Horizon is a free addition otherwise, so make sure to grab it when it drops and blast back into the Frontier(s).
