Capcom shows off RE4 on the PSVR2, details more Street Fighter 6, and confirms Dragon’s Dogma 2

It was a busy PlayStation Showcase for Capcom, with the publisher showing off two eagerly awaited experiences and unveiling Dragon’s Dogma 2.

The cult classic returns

Pretty easily the biggest surprise at the PlayStation Showcase, at least as goes Capcom, was Dragon’s Dogma 2. Did anyone expect to see a sequel to the cult classic, dark-fantasy action title?

But getting one we are, and DD2 will once again be a single-player, story-driven adventure. Capcom did say however, that you can expect a lot more “choice” this time around.

Players will face a world with reactive AI, where consequences will hinge on the choices they make. In addition, players will be able to choose how they tackle their foes, with a “vocation” that’ll allow them to pick from melee, ranged, and magical combat.

And of course, via the RE engine, it’s looking incredible.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 begins in a subterranean jail, where the Dragon’s voice echoes in the fog of lost memories. With their heart taken by the Dragon, the Arisen is set on a path to slay that symbol of the world’s destruction as it soars through the sky on massive wings, breathing flames that scorch everything in its path. Betwixt the domains of humans and the newly introduced beastren race, a hero must fulfill their forgotten destiny, and claim the throne. Up to three mysterious otherworldly beings, known as Pawns, accompany the Arisen throughout their journey. Pawns create the feeling of a cooperative gameplay experience by offering unique characteristics, skills, and knowledge gained from their experiences with other Arisen.

Capcom press release

No release date just yet for Dragon’s Dogma 2, but you can expect it for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The fight begins

Completely opposite from Dragon’s Dogma, is Street Fighter 6. The one-on-one fighting is coming up fast, landing at retail at the top of June. But even so, there’s still a lot that’s to be revealed about it.

Capcom talked up the game’s World Tour mode, which allows players to create their own World Warrior. After designing him or her, they’ll actually train with “all 18 legendary Masters like Chun-Li and Ryu”, to learn special moves and styles.

Street Fighter™ 6 is gearing up for its imminent global release and showed off brand new scenes from World Tour, the new single-player story mode set within the Street Fighter™universe. From interacting with all 18 legendary Masters like Chun-Li and Ryu, to discovering the true meaning of strength, players will travel through open-world areas as they customize their own personal avatar by mixing and matching fighting styles and special moves.

Capcom press release

Street Fighter 6 lands on PlayStation and Xbox platforms, as well as the PC, on June 6th, 2023.

Virtual terror

Rounding things out for Capcom at the event, was none other than Resident Evil 4. While the new remake has been out for a little while now, there’s still new content coming up for it, and that includes a piece exclusively for the PS5.

That would be the VR mode, which will be playable via the PSVR2, and will be free for owners of the base title.

Here’s a peek:

Get even closer to Leon S. Kennedy’s critically acclaimed story of survival with the Resident Evil 4 VR Mode free DLC coming exclusively to PlayStation VR®2 for those who own the game on PlayStation®5. The PlayStation Showcase provided eager fans with a first look at gameplay, demonstrating how the PlayStation®VR2 Sense controller makes core gameplay systems such as parrying enemy attacks even more immersive and intuitive.
