Season 2 kicks off for SNK’s King of Fighters XV this month

New year, new fights. SNK has revealed that the second season of DLC is about to erupt for King of Fighters XV, and it starts with Shingo Yabuki.

Round 2

Released last year, King of Fighters XV brought SNK’s venerable fighting game series back into the limelight. Some fresh looks and serious upgrades saw to that, along with the promise of plenty more to come post-launch.

Well, with season one in the bag already, the publisher is announcing that more is indeed in store, and sooner than later. Actually, Season 2 starts this month, and will see the addition of series star Kyo’s kinda/sorta former assistant Shingo Yabuki.

Shingo is a young man who became empassioned by Kyo Kusanagi’s strength and all but forced him to become his martial arts master. For Kyo, however, he looks at Shingo as his passive assistant, and treats him as such. Recently, Shingo has been gaining Kyo’s approval and seems to be making steady progress as a fighter, albeit little by little. His adoscelent approach to life gives him a personality liked by many.
Shingo is voiced by Takehito Koyasu.

SNK press release

Shingo arrives for the game on January 17th, but he won’t be alone. The martial artist will be accompanied by “a character refinement patch for the entire roster”. So even if you don’t grab the DLC, you still might get a new update for your fave fighter.

But wait, there’s more. Of course, SNK isn’t going to stop the season at just one new character. Fans can also expect to see Kim Kaphwan this spring, along with Sylvie Paula and Najd this summertime. Want more? Well, good, because there will be an additional 2 mystery characters in Season 2. those don’t have release dates just yet, but you can secure all of the above with the Fighter Pass. That’s a special, all-inclusive Season 2 pack that should be out now.

Along with the Shingo this month too, fans can expect some fresh tunes. Kinda. The game will be getting a dose of classic KoF music, with “15 staff roll songs from previous mainline KOF titles”. Look for that, free of charge, on the 17th as well.
