Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is free to play this weekend

Ubisoft’s latest Assassin’s Creed saga is back and ready for a free weekend of play. Valhalla is free to play right now, right through December 19th.

A weekend in Valhalla

First released in 2020, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was intended to be a long-lasting game, one that saw numerous updates and refreshes. That appears to have been the case too, as Valhalla is definitely still getting its share of love from publisher Ubisoft.

Ubi seems to be looking to get some more eyes on the title too, as the company has unveiled a free weekend that starts… NOW.

Today, Ubisoft announced that Assassin’s Creed® Valhalla, the latest opus from the Award-winning Assassin’s Creed franchise, will have for the second time a Free Weekend starting today until December 19* on Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, as well as Windows PC through the Ubisoft Store, the Epic Games Store and Steam. **

During the Free Weekend players will have access to the full main game content***, and their progression will carry over if they decide to purchase the game.   For the first time, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will also be hosting a friend referral program that will allow players to invite their friends to write their own Viking Saga and earn rewards.

Ubisoft press release

Players will have the full game to work their way though during the event. Well, as much of it as they can play anyway, with five(ish) days of play-time. But there’s a nice twist to this free weekend, as your progress will carryover to the full retail release, should you pick it up.

The game has a “referral program” too, where players can invite their pals to “write their own Viking Saga and earn rewards”. It’s not really fleshed out, but I guess that’s to mean that can get in on the free weekend as well, with the rewards coming to those who get players onboard.

In any event, if you want to get the most out of this play-time, you might want to get to downloading. The game is free to grab with now via Xbox and PlayStation platforms, as well as the PC (through Ubi’s shop, Epic, and Steam). And again, you can keep on playing through this coming Monday, December 19th.
