Long-awaited sci-fi FPS Atomic Heart finally dated for February

No, you’re not dreaming, the excellent-looking Atomic Heart finally has a release date. The game will be arriving on consoles and the PC in 2023.

This heart of mine

So when was Atomic Heart first announced? That’d be 2018. And after 4 long years of precious little in the way of news, the game has suddenly been granted a release date. But if you don’t know why this specific title is one you should be excited for, well let’s get a little refresher going, shall we?

From Focus Entertainment and developer Mundfish, Atomic Heart is set in the Soviet Union. But this isn’t the USSR that you know. Nope, this a timeline that’s radically different from our own, one where robots run rampant in a post-WWII world.

Enter a world of wonders and perfection in which humans and their AI creations live in harmony… or so it seems. Set the record straight on this deceitful utopia, exploring a twisted sci-fi world, blasting rogue robots, giant machines and even mutants. Adapt your fighting style to each opponent, and use your environment and upgrade your equipment to gain the upper hand in a visceral, spectacular and unforgiving combat experience. If you want to uncover the truth, you’ll have to pay in blood.

Focus Entertainment press release

It’s tough not to be pumped for Atomic Heart after watching that. It’s definitely got a Bioshock/System Shock feel to it, but with an aetsthetic and narrative twist that’s all its own. And of course it looks fantastic too.

And as you can see, it’s also got a release date. Officially arriving on February 21st, 2023, Atomic Heart will see launch for Xbox and PlayStation platforms, as well as the PC. And if you’re ready to pre-order now, you’ll get some bonuses too.

A total of 3 editions are up for pre-order, including the Standard Edition, the Gold Edition, and the Premium Edition. The Standard is pretty self-explanatory, while the Gold Edition “includes the base game plus the Atomic Pass“. Wanna check out the Premium Edition? That’s packed up with everything Gold has, plus “an exclusive digital artbook and extra cosmetics”.

Oh, and just so you know, the Atomic Pass is effectively a season pass. It serves up 4 additional DLCs, with “access to new areas and labs, as well as new weapons, enemies, bosses and more!”
