Free Comic Book Day returns to the 1st Saturday in May for 2022

It’s back. Free Comic Book Day is returning to its rightful place at the top of May for what will be a return to form for the comics ‘holiday’ in 2022.

Back in action

For the past few years, during the pandemic of 2020/21, Free Comic Book Day has moved around a bit. Well, it did this year anyway, as last year’s edition was basically a nonstarter.

Starting next calendar year though, it’ll be back where you expect it to be, right square in mid-spring. That news coming this week, as  Diamond Comic Distributors announced the return.

“We are so excited for Free Comic Book Day to make its return to the first Saturday in May. We know it’s an event fans look forward to each spring, and we’re working with our retailer and vendor partners to make this year’s event one of the best yet!” said Free Comic Book Day spokesperson, Ashton Greenwood. “Free Comic Book Day is a great opportunity for newcomers to dive into the world of comics and for longtime readers to try a new title they may not have picked up otherwise. We encourage fans everywhere to visit their local comic shops on Saturday, May 7 to celebrate!”

FCBD ’22 is set up to be a big one too, with 45 free books in total. Of course, these might vary depending on your local comics shop, but the post is there’ll be a bunch of freebies to pick up. Those will include “eleven gold and thirty-four silver sponsor titles”, which will be formally announced next month.

As for the date itself, Free Comic Book Day 2022 will be May the 7th, 2022.
