It’s official. Black Ops 4 is 2018’s Call of Duty installment

Prepare to go back into the shadows. Activision has announced that, after taking a year to re-explore WWII, the Call of Duty franchise is returning to the dark and murky world of Black Ops.

Back in Black

The Black Ops sub-series of Call of Duty games might be the best received of the bunch. I know Modern Warfare did well too. But Black Ops seems to have a special place in the heart of many a fan. Personally, I really dug the first two. Great games.

So it shouldn’t really be much of a shock that the theme has returned once again. This time, it’s Black Ops 4, which is set to be… Well, actually we have no idea.

Activision has announced a name and a launch date as of today, but nothing more. Yet. Way more is coming up fairly soon though, as the publishing house says that it will host a special reveal event on May 17.

Presumably, that means we’ll be finding out at least some of the particulars, including the era that the game will take place in. Black Ops has been moving ever-forward into the future, but I’d expect that to backtrack a bit. I don’t know why (this isn’t based on anything), but I think a more modern approach is most likely for BlOps 4.

Oh, and as for that release date? It’s currently set for October the 12th. Not much of a shock there.
