EA announces Battlefield 1

No I didn’t stop writing the headline for no reason, Battlefield 1 is taking the series all the way back to World War… 1.

Pretty spectacular looking, Battlefield 1 will showcase much of what made WWI different than pretty much every other war before or since. EA and developer DICE promise a game that plays up the hot arms-race that made up the first great war, and plenty of immersion with all the trench-warfare trimmings.

“The game will deliver a fresh experience full of what makes Battlefield great, with a multiplayer sandbox, immersion, epic scale, authenticity, team play and an ever-changing world full of unexpected Battlefield moments,“  said Aleksander Grøndal, Senior Producer, DICE. “We’re inviting players on an epic journey across a war-torn world, taking them to the Great War and providing something both varied and unique in Battlefield 1.”

A multiplayer-only title with 64 possible players at a time, Battlefield 1 will take the open-world approach that DICE has become known for and offer battles across the globe… “From tight urban fights in a besieged French city, to big open spaces in the Italian Alps and frantic combats in the deserts of Arabia, discover a world at war through an adventure-filled campaign.”

The game will be available for the Xbox One first (thanks to EA Access’ Play First Trials), as well as the PS4, and PC on October 21st. And if you’re buying digitally via Access, you can also expect to get a 10% discount on the price, a discount that’s also extended to PC gamers thanks to Origin.

Want to play before that? Then you’ll want to sign up to be an Origin Insider on the PC, where you’ll be able to get early access to the Beta, and “in-game rewards, exclusive content and sneak peeks at news about Battlefield“.
