You knew it was coming, but it’s awfully nice to see the official announcement for the second season of Telltale Games’ incredible The Walking Dead series. Trailer after the jump.
The Walking Dead: Season Two – A Telltale Games Series will continue the story of Clementine, a young girl orphaned at the outset of the undead apocalypse, now left to her own devices to seek safety and survive in a world gone mad. Now assuming the role of an ordinary child, players will struggle to outwit both the dead and the living in situations that will test their morals and control the flow of the story through their decisions and actions.
“The terrifying nature of Robert Kirkman’s world has allowed Telltale to push the boundaries of interactive drama in video games to a place that has had fans anxious to know what will happen next in this series,” said Dan Connors, Co-Founder and CEO of Telltale Games. “Today we can finally lift the veil, albeit only a little, on how this story will continue, and we’ll soon be putting players in the shoes of a lead role that will challenge their expectations of how to survive in a world where no one can be trusted.”
There have been few games the last few years that have grabbed hold of audiences and not let go like The Walking Dead. Telltale’s episodic format proved to be an even bigger hit than it did with titles like Back to the Future and Jurassic Park too as each episode of TWD was a cliffhanger of the highest proportion. In fact, the whole game was maybe even a bigger nail-biter than the show or the comic it’s based on.
Much like the first season, season 2 will consist of five episodes that’ll play out over several months. The first installment is set to arrive later this year for consoles, iOS and the PC/Mac. That’s great news for fans, as it means only a short wait from here before anxious survivors can dig into season two. Telltale has already announced a Season Pass for the game too that’s available for pre-order right now on the PC with a 10% discount should you order the Pass.
In addition to all that, the publisher has also announced that a Game of the YEar edition for the first season of The Walking Dead will be made available for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in boxed format. The GotY will include all five episodes from season one plus the 400 Days bonus installment, the score and a behind the scenes video.
Expect to see that this coming month for $29.99 USD.
