Hellraid gets an interactive video prequel from Techland

Not only is this cool, but it’s also pretty darned innovative. Developer Techland has just released an interactive video that’ll have you guiding the monk named Edyn from his hellspawn infested monastery.

Today’s ‘demo’ is a direct prequel to the game and actually uses environments and weaponry that you’ll find in the final version of developer Techland’s Hellraid. Techland, as you may recognize the name, is best known for the zombie open-world affair Dead Island (and its sequel) as well as Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, the game that resuscitated the Call of Juarez franchise after the disastrous last game in that series.

Called ‘Edyn’s Escape’, the demo/video takes place two weeks prior to the game’s beginning and tasks players with guiding the title monk through the recently overrun monastery and out into Hellraid’s world.

This is honestly pretty unique and I think a first for the industry. Not in the sense that we got a ‘choose your own adventure’ video, those have been done before, but in the sense that this is an actual prequel to the game and as ‘official’ as it can get storywise. That’s just neat and something I’d like to see a lot more of.

Not only is it fun to play, but it also gives players a real sense of how Hellraid will play when it finally arrives for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 later this Fall/Holiday. Cool stuff Techland, keep it coming.
