Gamescom ’26: Warhammer 40K: Boltgun 2 gets release date and more

One heck of a lot of info came pouring out of Gamescom today, pertaining to retro-fueled, FPS sequel Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2.

Have Boltgun, will Gamescom

Probably one of the most anticipated retro first-person shooters out there at present, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is rocketing towards release. The title follows up on the 2023 original, which was a breakaway hit for developer Auroch Digital.

Boltgun 2 is looking like it might be a worthy successor to that lineage too, adding in more of just about everything. That includes a second playable character. Ultramarine Malum Caedo will be joined by Sister of Battle Nyra Veyrath this time, as they engage a horde of Chaos filth.

If you’ve been waiting for more about the game, praise the Emperor, because your day has arrived. That’s thanks to the title’s appearance at Gamescom, which has been quite generous with details. Chief amongst those, is the reveal of a new arch-foe, called Vashtorr the Arkifane.

That’s not all though. Auroch Digital and Big Fan Games have also announced a massive name that’s set to rock the soundtrack for Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2. That would be one Mick Gordon, who shooter fans should be well familiar with, thanks to his work on DOOM.

If you’re a fan of his, then you’ll no doubt recognize his work the second the below trailer starts up. It loaded with blasting audio, and more daemons than you shake a chainsword at.

Traveling to an isolated star system to check on reports of increased Chaos activity, playable characters Ultramarine Malum Caedo and Sister of Battle Nyra Veyrath soon find themselves facing the wrath of Vashtorr the Arkifane. A demigod of immense power, Vashtorr awakens a vast daemonic machine at the centre of the planet, causing a catastrophic explosion and destroying much of the Imperial fleet. Now Malum and Nyra must race from world to world to cleanse the corruption powering Vashtorr’s daemonic machinations – and to stand a chance of banishing the demigod back to the Warp.

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 continues where the original Boltgun left off, bringing unrepentant strafing action and increased variety of killer weapon selection to fans. Battle fan-favorite foes like the sassy plague-spreading Nurglings and Chaos Cultists, as well as all-new enemies. The ferocious Bloodletters and their bloodthirsty Juggernauts are just the beginning. Greater terrors await in the Emperor’s endless war.

Big Fan Games press release

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is heading towards an October 14th release date. Fans will be able to pick it up for the PC, PS5, and XBOX Series X|S. Prefer to take the action mobile with the Switch 2? Well, as of today, it’s officially on the way to Nintendo’s latest platform. That won’t mean a day one release, but publisher Big Fan Games says to expect it not long afterwards.
