One of the biggest toy companies in the world, Mattel is bringing its biggest lines to SDCC this week, and yes, DC will be among them.
Mattel has the power
There are a few toy companies that almost everybody might think of when they consider the industry. Pretty easily, one of those is Mattel, and has been for a long, long time. The mega-toy-maker has dominated toy aisles for decades, a run that includes some of the longest lived brands in existence.
Masters of the Universe, fresh off of a reboot movie, is one of those. WWE? Yep, that too, and while we’re at it, throw in Jurassic World, and now… DC. The superhero brand isn’t quite back in the Mattel fold just yet (not completely anyway), but will be soon enough.
And yes, the company will be bringing all of the above, and then some, to Comic Con this week.

Fans will be able to check out a full booth on the show floor (#2945), complete with a set of exclusives to buy. Those include what might be our pick of the show, with a WWE 3 pack that includes Capt. Lou Albano, Rowdy Roddy Piper, and for the first time in the line, Cyndi Lauper. If you remember wrestling in its golden era, it’s looking like it might be a can’t miss.
Aside from WWE, there are multiple exclusives lined up for Hot Wheels, plus the aforementioned Masters of the Universe and Jurassic World. The JW item is a slick looking 25th anniversary Raptor, and the MOTU piece is, well… it’s Gym Bro Skeletor. Yes, it’s the Overlord of Evil as he appeared in one of the final sequences of the just-released movie, clad in his gym-going best.

All of the above and lots more will be in the booth and up for sale, as long as stock holds out. And that also includes on the Mattel Creations website. The SDCC goodies will be listed in the company’s online shop as well, starting when the show opens up. Just keep in mind that all of this stuff is limited, and It sounds like once it’s gone, it’s gone.

Don’t forget the panels
Along with the above selection of goods for sale, Mattel will be bringing some panel presentations (and more) to the convention center. Those start on the first full day of the show, Thursday, and mostly look to be at the booth itself. Kind of a cool twist there, and if you’re looking for heavy hitters, the schedule is loaded. Before you ask too, yes, that’s where DC comes in.
There’ll be a Design Panel including the comics brand, which will run on Saturday the 25th, at 2pm. According to Mattel, the Design & Packaging Teams will be on hand. They’ll walk attendees through the “product concepts and features”, but that’s not all.
Sounding like the place to be for DC fans looking for toy news, the panel also promises “product reveals, giveaways, and more”. Will we finally get a better look at what that collector-focused DC lineup is shaping up to be? Seems like it’s possible.
It’s not all DC though, as there’ll be panels for a multitude of topics. The Mattel Brick Shop Design Panel in specific caught our eye, as there’s a Halo reveal happening in that one. While we don’t know what it might include, Mattel says “fans won’t want to miss” it, so you can consider our interest piqued.
Finally, and along with the panels, the company will have a selection additional happenings, including cosplay sessions and some cool sounding photo ops. So if you’re looking for multiple things to check out, some of the below might fit the bill.
